Daryl Holle DARYL HOLLE - Founder of Blue Mountain Feeds, based in the United States. Daryl founded Blue Mountain Feeds in 1992 after local farmers witnessed the success he achieved with his own birds. This is the first opportunity for delegates from outside the United States to have the opportunity to listen to Daryl Holle, an opportunity not to be missed. Not only has Daryl Holle extensive experience in production nutrition and farming of ostriches, he has also managed an ostrich processing plant and marketed the products. Daryl has written a number of Books on ostrich production, nutrition and The Ostrich Diagnostic Centre. Daryl is president of the World Ostrich Association and chairman of the Nutrition Committee of the National Ratite Producers Cooperative in the United States.
STAN STEWART - Started farming ostriches in 1994 in the United Kingdom. From the beginning, Stan's aim was to rear and sell meat producing birds. During this time he has gained a vast amount of experience in most aspects of the industry from rearing chicks to operating one of the few licensed slaughter units in the United Kingdom. Stan is chairman of British Domesticated Ostrich Association and vice chairman of the World Ostrich Association.
FIONA BENSON - Entered the industry in 1994 with the primary intention of marketing the meat. Living in South Africa and coming from a pioneering livestock production background, it became clear very quickly that there were a combination of factors limiting progress of the industry - nutrition, farming practices and the monopoly situation that had controlled the industry till the end of 1993 being the most significant. Through the Internet she read the writings of Daryl Holle and in 1997 established Blue Mountain International as a mechanism to enable producers and processors outside the United States to have access to this technology. Fiona has also been a member of NOPSA (National Ostrich Processors of South Africa) since 1997 and taken part in strategic analysis sessions for both the South African Industry and the International Industry.
ALAN STABLES - Alan Stables has five years experience of ostrich farming in Spain, but now dedicates his business to trading in ostrich skins as well as producing finished products under the ALANI EXOTICS label. Regularly attending the major leather trade fairs both in raw materials and finished products, Alan has an appreciation of the ostrich leather industry both as a producer of skins as well as a manufacturer of product. Less convinced on traditional methods, he regular seeks new leather finishes and new designs to offer innovation to the fashion accessories business. Often invited to speak on the topic of ostrich leather, Alan has knowledge of both sides - contacting farming groups for the supply of skins and also the demand side from his customer base for ostrich skins and ostrich leather products.
CANDIDO CARRILLO GONZALEZ - Candido Carrillo Gonzalez owned and ran his own Tex-Mex restaurant for six years before embarking upon the ostrich industry. Candido sold ostrich accessories to ostrich farmers prior to starting his own ostrich farm in 1996. Being actively involved in ostrich breeding, Candido was elected as president of the Spanish Ostrich Association (AECA). Candido then decided to specialise on the leather side of the ostrich business, exporting ostrich leather goods to special boutiques in Western Europe, the Middle East and Japan - all under the brand name "Alani". Attendance at world fashion trade fairs has taken him to Stockholm, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Milan to name just a few. Nowadays Candido works in large volumes of raw skin supplies and has extensive knowledge of all stages of production.
