Over the past decade many have entered the
Ostrich industry as a livestock industry full of promise. Every livestock producer is aware of the
important roll of nutrition – the difficulty for many farmers and supporting
specialists has been in understanding the important issues relating to
nutrition.
Statements such as “The Ability of Ostriches
to adjust to Poor Feeding can well be used to cut down expenses” and “The
Ostrich can utilise Fibre well and therefore grain by-products may be used
extensively in a ration” had for the most part taken those working with
Ostrich nutrition in the wrong direction.
It is not possible to break the basic principals of good nutrition and
still expect to achieve profitable levels of production with any species –
including Ostrich.
Today I will attempt to
cover the Basics.
